           Our Historical Background

      • YSK is an out come of a long journey that began in 1997 initiated by Jimmy Kilonzi to unite young people for participatory involvement in community work through voluntary participatory interventions. Founding Youth Support Kenya was a culmination of his Philosophy of joining young people for development Coded "Together we Stand... We Shall Over come" . YSK founder beleives that if all stakeholders in the society stood together , then no development challenge would be hard to overcome .

Jimmy Kilonzi a community Development worker by profession established viable youth community partnerships at Kangundo district in lower Eastern Province and in 2003 Child Support Programme in Nairobi Province through which mobilization for community involvement has been taking place.

      • In Kangundo District,Youth Focus Information and Communication Project (YFICP) has been over the years conducting community mobilization and advocacy on HIV and AIDS, Environmental conservation, Appropriate Agricultural Practices, Civic education, among others. YFICP has up to date mobilized thousands of youths and other community members and institutions through volunteer work, drama and sports, demonstrations, focus group discussions among others to push for the development agenda. YFICP previously managed to secure small Grants from Family Health International (FHI) in 2004 and from AMREF Maanisha in 2009 in support of HIV and AIDS projects in Kangundo district. YFICP is located at Kangundo town next to MULI  High School.
      • Child Support Programme in Nairobi was started with the aim of mobilizing community resources and leveraging support for Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). The CSP has since its inception networked with numerous community stakeholders in support of children and in 2004/2005 secured a small grant from National Aids Control Council (NACC) and from Ruth Paulig a good friend and founder of Promoting Africa (PA) towards its Mlango Kubwa project in Mathare Slums the second largest urban informal settlement in Kenya after Kibera Slums .
      • Today YFICP , MKCSP and JAMII MOJA are some of the Community Partnerships for Youth Support Kenya through which the organization reaches out to youths in Lower Eastern province and Nairobi region among others in North rift in West Pokot.
