YSK endeavors to establish viable and meaningful community support activities geared towards community empowerment to alleviate poverty, disease and ignorance. The community support programme involves mobilization of communities and resources for activities ranging from Water and Agriculture , reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, environmental conservation and renewable energy sources, micro-entrepreneurship activities among others.  Volunteers are highly encouraged to partner with us at the grassroot level for enhanced community support and empowerment through various initiatives.

Water and Agriculture  
Water is equated to life and YSK recognizes the significance of water thus its focus on Water for life ,Water for food, Water for Peace and so on. YSK intends to strive towards improving water availability , accesability and competent use of water related resources. On the other hand ,today water and food remains the most popular and appropriate source of natural foods that support healthy nutrition for the body growth and development with minimal or no risk of numerous bodily weaknesses and diseases likened to increased use of fertilizers ,pesticides ,herbicides and  such related chemicals through modern farming technology. Appropriate practices emphasized are the use of compost manure made from natural decaying matter, double digging for utilization of fertile soils rich with microorganisms deep beneath the surface soil and gunny bag farming for those in urban setup where availability of land is a challenge.

Reproductive health and HIV/AIDS:
RH & HIV/AIDS currently form a great challenge to most youths and young families amidst generational identity crisis and peer pressure, adverse cultural beliefs, increased generational gap between the young and the experienced, growing inability for youths to get employment and earn a living, and inability by existing stakeholders to effectively decentralize youth friendly health services.

YSK anticipates creating    awareness on pertinent issues regarding diverse reproductive health issues among the youth and healthy practices that promote prevention and transmission of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted Infections (STIs) among others. YSK will also focus on drawing linkages between Gender based Violence(GBV) , Youth rights ,Cultural experiences and HIV/AIDS all towards effective programming towards effective mobilization and empowerment of the youths.

Micro-entrepreneurship 
Economic independence of the youth and communities that YSK work with is of key significance to us. The target communities apply skills acquired through livelihood skills training and demonstrations to establish income generating activities that enable them to earn a living and enhance access and provision of basic necessities on their own. Voluntary savings and Loans (VS&L) is a culture YSK appreciates and anticipates to grow among target communities to help one another access soft and appropriate financial business support from within the community they live in and from among friends they know well.

Environmental Stewardship

It’s of paramount importance to recognize that the current generation holds the key to better environment for the future generations and the only remedy is environmental stewardship. It’s in the interest of YSK to mobilize communities and resources for environmental awareness, conservation and promotion of the use of environment friendly renewable energy sources like wind power, solar power, biogas among others.
